Why Dye Sublimation?

Ideal for special finishes, or graphics with darker colours.

Dye sublimation printing is a full coverage printing technique. Sublimation is the technique of transferring special dye onto a polyester fabric. Your artwork is printed onto paper and pressed onto the fabric using high heat. Colours are extremely vibrant with a durable and smooth feel. The design possibilities are therefore endless!

It is most effective on white or lightly coloured fabrics, and can print in full colour, including fluoro, metallic and reflective colours.

Garment Selection

The first step is all about selecting the right garment. On white or very light coloured fabrics, ceramics, and metals or even on products with a polymer coating. This printing method creates prints that are vivid, sharp and permanent with no texture when the print is touched.

Printing

Your artwork is printed onto a special paper and transferred onto the garment by applying heat and pressure. The solid dye particles convert into gas - known as sublimation - where they diffuse into the polyster fibres and re-solidify. The dye is permanently stained into the fabric. It's a little like tattooing, but instead of needles, paper and heat are used to stain the fabric dot by dot.

Curing

Heat curing process is used to permanently affix the print to the garment.

We ensure your garment goes through either an industrial heat press and permanently affix the printed ink to your shirt.

ADVANTAGES OF DYE SUBLIMATION

  • Our dye gives of a soft finish, resulting in prints that do not crack or peel
  • Colours are vibrant and high quality
  • Because the prints are printed directly onto the fabric, they can stretch any way that the fabric stretches
  • Decorate the whole garment - front, back and sleeves for maximum impact
  • Easy to wash and care for, no ironing of garments required

DISADVANTAGES OF DYE SUBLIMATION

  • Can only be applied to white or light fabrics that are polyester based
  • Minimum quantities apply
  • Sublimation takes longer that other methods of decoration
  • Exact colour matching through the Pantone Matching System might not be possible
